Nature’s debt is the loan we got from nature. Nature provides us so much that our hands are full, air, natural light, rainwater, fruits and vegetables etc., and all these for free. And how do we pay back to the nature? To be honest, what ever natural resources nature provides us should be used consciously. Keeping this in my mind, I decided to take a unique initiative for celebrating World Environment Day,2021 with the help of Social Lab Environmental Solutions Pvt.Ltd Aurangabad, a waste management company where I’ve been working for past two years.

As part of this initiative, I pledged to remove nails out of trees and free them from the pain and protect them. I got this idea by reading about such initiatives and for implementation of this, Chief officer of Shindkheda Municipal Council, Mr. Prashant Bidkar Sir, and Mr. Satyam Patil Sir, Engineer guided me and cooperated. Apart from this, we planted 1000 seed balls of Neem seeds at various locations which includes, 2 graveyards and 3 gardens. A total of 1000 seed balls were planted across these five locations, 200 seed balls each on the occasion of World Environment Day.

I’ve observed and heard a lot of tree plantation done on various occasions and how the trees are taken care as children and grown in protected environment. But once the tress are healthy and grown they are used as hording boards, where advertisements are hanged with the help of nails. Indian scientist Jagdish Basu has proved that plants and trees have emotions, they feel pain. So, is it ethical to put nails, strings in them and hurting them for the sake of advertisement? Just imagine the pain we feel by getting pricked by a small needle, tree are living things and imagine how much pain they’ll feel after getting nailed. These nails affect the health of trees and the falling of healthy leaves could be considered as a sign of sick tree. This results in drying out of trees, and their lifespan reduces. Fully grown trees are usually the ones where we see advertisement boards, it’s a request and I urge everyone to stop these brutal activity and take a step and stop the ones who are doing this, and do not hesitate to explain them why nailing on tree is not ethical. Cities like Pune, Mumbai in Maharashtra, which resides a huge educated population which are technologically advanced and obviously socially active, but we see a lot of advertisement boards in these cities. Boards of IAS, IPS coaching classes, advertisement about apartments/house for sell etc. We learn to protect and conserve the environment in coaching classes and we put advertisement of the same coaching class on trees, what kind of nature conservation is this? This has to stop and we are the ones who can a step forward and stop this brutal activity of nailing the trees. This is the reason why I was inspired to start such an initiative and contributed my efforts and as a result me and my team successfully removed 69 nails from 29 trees. I am thankful for my Shindhkheda team, Gautam Borase, Pradeep Patil, Akash Thakare, and Ganesh Pawar for their contribution. By taking a small step, we were able to protect 29 tree by freeing them from the nails, and this made me happy and satisfied and was the best way to celebrate World Environment Day.
