Plastic Waste EPR Compliances— Imports!

Importers are facing a major hurdle in clearing their shipments. Practically almost every shipment comes with some kind of plastic packaging and as per the notifications issued by Customs Department, and JNPT, Importers need to take registration under PWM Rules for clearing their consignments.

These importers need to quantify the plastic packaging that comes along with their shipments, and then submit application for registration under PWM Rules.

To bring simplicity in the business, the Customs notification has allowed clearing of consignments based on the application number and screenshot of the application submission also. To make it further easier, CPCB has hinted at if the annual plastic packaging weight is less than 1000 kg, then the registration can be done automatically through the system, however that facility is yet to be provided by CPCB.
